Since July 2020, I have served as the Science Writer/Editor for the Ontario Science Centre. I’ve had the privilege of working on a wide variety of initiatives, including these recent projects:

Vaccine Awareness Video & Exhibits

The Science Centre was tasked with creating several resources to promote vaccine awareness and combat vaccine hesitancy. I worked closely with a team of researchers and animators to write the scripts for three videos:

  • What happens after you get a vaccine? [Video]
  • What happens when viruses mutate? [Video]
  • What happens when antibodies come into play? [Video]

Community Reef Exhibit

The Community Reef includes several panels featured in a small exhibit space on Level 6 of the Ontario Science Centre. The panel copy focuses on coral, ocean health, and environmentalism. It accompanies a collection of coral crocheted by contributors from across Ontario.

The Future of Aging is a full-length book written by the anthropologists, futurists, and strategists at Idea Couture and SE Health. Together, we took a close look at what the future might look like for today’s aging adults. The book has five chapters, each of which focuses on a different topic related to aging:

  • Aging and Community
  • Health Interventions
  • Gerontechnology
  • Economic Contexts
  • Identity

I edited The Future of Aging from cover to cover, and I also had a chance to contribute several of the personas that occur throughout the book. These fictional personas are used to illustrate the challenges faced by aging adults today, as well as the potential solutions that may be achieved if the needs of today’s seniors are thoughtfully considered in the design of new products and services.

The Future of Aging is available in print on Amazon. All proceeds from sales of the book will be used to support Saint Elizabeth Foundation, a registered charity dedicated to strengthening community healthcare.

This article originally appeared in print. It was published in 2018 in the Play issue of MISC, a thought leadership magazine produced by Idea Couture. I co-authored this piece with Maggie Coblentz, a researcher based out of the MIT Media Lab. Coblentz’s research focuses on the physical, psychological, and social aspects of cooking and eating in space.

The print edition of the Play issue of MISC sold out in 2019. However, a full version of the issue is available online (pages 31-34).

This special feature originally appeared in print. It was published in 2018 in the Purpose issue of MISC, a thought leadership magazine produced by Idea Couture. I co-authored this feature with several of my colleagues at Idea Couture. We interviewed leaders at five different companies—Mauro Porcini of PepsiCo, Sachin Aggarwal of Think Research, Alyssa Bertram of Easy Period, Alison Fleming of Shopify, and Tim Attia of Slice—to gain their perspective on what it means for a business to be “purpose-driven.”

This special feature is available online (pages 43-56).

How to Write a Resume: The Complete Guide to Modern Resume Writing is an e-book published by Inklyo in 2016. Inklyo.com provides online writing and editing courses, including a resume-writing course adapted from this text.

The Ontario Science Centre debuted Behind Racism: Challenging the Way We Think in early 2022. This travelling exhibition was developed in collaboration with the Canadian Race Relations Foundation (CRRF).

I worked closely with the researchers on this project to create accessible, engaging exhibit copy that was age-appropriate for the Ontario Science Centre’s primary audience.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ontario Science Centre set out to create virtual offerings to keep children and their families engaged in science from home. Since joining the Science Centre as a Science Writer/Editor in 2020, I have edited several experiments, activities, and information sheets. Here are just a few of these offerings:

What You Don’t Know About Gen Z is a book that was researched and written by Idea Couture’s publishing team. This work, published in 2017, discusses at length the flaws inherent to generational research, as well as the sweeping generalizations that such research perpetuates. I worked closely with the primary author of this work and provided line editing, copyediting, and proofreading publishing process.
